ALL ABOUT ME! :)

THE BEGINNING...

So, this is the part where I get to explain to anyone that's interested how one goes from Student Leader to Student Leadership Consultant!

The first question people always ask me after they hear I'm a Motivational Speaker, is "how did you get into it in the first place?".

Well, during my time in high school at Westmount Collegiate Institute in Thornhill, Ontario, I was highly involved in student leadership. Over the course of my last four years, I put in over 6,000 hours in extra curricular activities. My involvement included playing the drums, acting, directing, student council, music council, drama council, school council, Student Trustee, York Region Presidents Council, Ontario Secondary School Students Association...and the list goes on!

In my grade 12 year, I planned the first annual leadership conference at my school, along with two other students; LOTTO '98. For the Conference, we needed a Motivational Speaker but couldn't afford anyone "professional", so one of the other students and myself put together a mini-speech. This became my first speech as a "Motivator".

As the years progressed, I continued Speaking by myself and have enjoyed the opportunity to speak to over 30,000 students around the world. Sometimes people wonder how much longer I'll continue doing Motivational Speaking and while I'm not sure how many more years I'll be touring, I know that I will always try to carry my message in any conversation I have.

THE UNIVERSITY YEARS...

So that's the quick 3-paragraph sum up of my days in high school. After that phase of my life I took off for four INCREDIBLE years at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. While I was there I studied Political Science and History and graduated in May 2004 with Honours.

I decided not to apply for grad school or law school because I was going to take a shot at the real world. For four years, my passion for Motivational Speaking could only be kept as a part time job because it had to compete with my studies at school. So I decided that it was time for me to find out just how many people I could Motivate and impact by making this a full time job for myself.

However...after returning home from school, a Federal Election was held in Canada. I decided to get involved and help out an old friends' mom who was running Federally for her first time in my riding. Over a six week period from mid-May until the end of June I helped her out as much as I could (between travelling for Speaking; playing and coaching baseball and graduating from University).

I helped her out as much as I could NOT because I was hoping to land a job but just because I knew her, respected her and wanted her to do the best she could. Three days after a terrific victory in the election, I was called into the campaign office for a meeting. I figured they wanted me to help them with the clean up, but instead, they wanted to offer me a full-time job with her staff. What a tremendous lesson I learned...I NEVER even thought about the possibility of a job...but you help out other people, and you do positive things, and you WILL be rewarded!

THE PRESENT...

After two-plus years of working for the Member of Parliament for Thornhill, I found myself being torn between my original ambition of politics and the myriad of requests that kept coming in to perform my Motivational Speeches all around North America.

As of September 2006, I am now a full-time Motivational Speaker after six-plus years of Speaking while being in University and while working for the M.P. I am now focused EXCLUSIVELY on working with youth and pushing them to motivate themselves. My hope is that I can help bridge the gap that currently exists between youth motivating youth and that I can continue to impact students and their lives.

Thanks again for visiting my site, and taking the time to get to know a little bit about me and my company. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions at all. I look forward to Motivating you in the future! :)
